  1. the weighted string. I think is a plumb bob. My dad had something similar in 1960s. It was for getting a vertical straight line.

  2. I didn’t have time to look through all the previous comments so I might be be repeating someone else’s comments but here goes. The thing on the back of the drill guide is to make sure that the guide is sat level on the workpiece you are drilling. The square shaft on the variable bit is designed to fit in a hand brace which had a two-piece chuck, it was designed before the advent of battery drills when hand braces were in common use by joiners and carpenters. I still have my Stanley hand brace which I bought in the early 70’s.

  3. Have you thought about a trip down to the south coast. Draper hq just outside southampton and countries largest b and m in Bournemouth across the road from a b an q so potential for a cheap toolkit challenge

  4. I don’t know if they have pawn shops in the UK. Around me the pawn shops want so much money for the merchandise, I would rather buy new.

  5. Those expansion bits use to be standard issue in the old military chippys box. A couple of them found their way into my tool box before I left the mob 👀
